Meet the School Staff

Adrian H. Cline, Superintendent

August 5, 2003

In addition to the teachers at your child’s school, there are many other staff members who provide services for your children.  Most of these people will influence your child’s life at one time or another.  If you do not know the other members of the school family, make a mental note to get to know as many of these people as you can.  Start with the following list:

§        The school secretaries (office professionals) are the first people a student or parent encounters upon entering the school office.  They help students and parents with questions and problems, keep attendance records, and perform many tasks that help children and staff throughout the school day.

§       The principal serves as the instructional leader and helps the school family work together to provide the best possible education for children. The assistant principal is an essential member of the administrative team.

§        The school nurse helps when children are sick or injured.

§        The school librarian or media specialist helps instill a love of reading.

§        The school counselor guides students and parents in making important decisions.

§        Paraprofessionals assist teachers and provide more individual attention for students.  They also help supervise children in the cafeteria, on the playground, or on the bus.

§        Custodians work at keeping the school in good condition.  They also keep the buildings and surrounding grounds clean and safe.

§        Transportation staff members are the bus drivers who take children safely to and from school and provide transportation for extracurricular activities.  The bus drivers are also responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the buses.

§        Food service staff members prepare and serve hot, nutritious meals to the children each day.

Obviously, your child’s educational experiences are not confined to the classroom.  The whole school family works together to provide students a quality education, and you and your child will benefit from your efforts to become acquainted with these staff members.
